8. (a)
as regarda Japanese vessels, article
4 (c) of the Original «greement is modified am
above to permit carriage of cargo by JapaROSE
vessels. \rticles 4 (*) and 4 (g) are can-
celled, and normal Hongkong Customs procedure
will be followed as regards any such Japanese
vensals na may carry cargo.
After "police protection” read "as was requested by the Custome" and after "arrival and departure of vessels" add "gui while Customs Laticers are on duty”.

(b)
As regards British vessels:-
(1) Article 5(b) is extended to permit the carriage of "merchandise and oargo" as permitted in article 1 above of this Supplementary Memorandum.
(11)It is understood that, as regards the last sentence of article 5 (o) of the original Agreement, with the re-opening of the Customs, Customs Officers will resume their normal functions regarding the examination both of cargo and of the effects of passengers. No objection however, will be raised to the presence of such police protection at the time of arrival and departure of vessels as may be requested by the Customs.

During the currency of this Supple- mentary Memorandum it is agreed that all cargo
ex British ships will:-
either be stored in Butterfield & Swire's godowns Nos. 1 and 2 at rak Hin Hok wharf (except hazardous cargo, which will be
stored in godowns Nos. 12 and 18a at that wharf); OR
